While the article documents important and wide-spreading evidence, the majority of the studies involve self-report. There is, however, a wealth of evidence on memory, interpretation and attention bias in pain patients, which utilises experimental approaches, and which should also be addressed (e.g. Pearce & Morley, 1989; Pearce et al., 1990; Edwards et al., 1992; Pincus et al, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1998).
